Survey Notes

The survey was conducted by Jean-Francois Tchernia, Francoise Lebreton. It was carried out on a sample of 501 people, representing the French population aged 18 and over. The sampling method used was quotas on sexes, ages and socio-professional categories. The interviews, conducted by telephone, took place between June 14 and 19, 1995. The aim was to define the major characteristics of a painting that would correspond to the taste of the French population. The result obtained would allow two Russian artists to paint the picture the French would love as well as the one they would hate.

The survey was sponsored by Jacqueline Klugman, Passage de Retz, Paris.
