These are the highest tides in the world, coming in hard and fast against the back corners of the Knowle shore, dragging down the red face of Cape Blomidin and depositing thousands of tones of silt around the perimeter of the Minas Basin and at the foot of every house in which I ever lived. | |
Triassic System: Red sandstones, shales, and conglomerates of Triassic age occur in the Bay of Fundy region. They are most extensive on the southeast side of the bay, where a belt streaches along the entire length of the bay and borders both sides of Minas Basin. They rest uncomfortably on various Paleosoic and pre-Cambrian formations and are capped by about 1000 ft. of basaltic lavas that form the North Mountain upland. |
