Hondius, Abraham. Painting, Cosmic Allegory. 1625.
Mapplethorp, Robert. Photograph, Ajitto. 1981.
Poem, “Impersonation”. 2002.

A poem about seeds, storage, lost objects and the unfixed self is arranged around Hondius’s allegory of creation. Mapplethorpe’s photograph of a contemplating man is inserted in the center of the painting. Both images were cropped into an elliptical shape as a glyph for the letter “O”. The poem considers navigates the tension between  preservation and commodification of objects and the values they represent in the postmodern condition.
