I came to New York City in 1980, and started my first painting series. There were many strange objects in New York City for me. I started to paint these, water hydrant first, then locks, and light bulbs of construction places. I used medieval techniques and materials which were egg tempera on a panel for them. The painting was a kind of craft man's works. I had to be very patient. Each painting was put together little by little. It took me about one half year to paint a painting. I have made eight large paintings and some small paintings over the last five years. In 1985, my interest changed direction. It was not a concrete object. I wanted to change my way of thinking and not be affected by my surroundings. I gave the name "Guardian Deities in the City" to my first series of paintings, and finished them.
