Beatnik Xtra Soundbanks

This directory contains three "soundbank" files you can use with your Shockwave and Projector delivered projects.

A soundbank contains the standard library of musical instruments that the Beatnik Xtra uses to play MIDI and RMF notes, and the three different versions are for use under different playback conditions.

For full instructions on how to use these soundbanks in your project, please see the following sections of the Beatnik Xtra User's Guide:

If you're already familiar with that background information, here's a quick summary of the purpose and use of each soundbank file:

Beatnik Xtra Sample Library Files
(Instrument Banks)
Bank Filename Size Version
Number
Description
stub.hsb
115 Bytes
0.0.1
Empty Sample Library – Use to initialize the Beatnik Xtra when your RMF files contain all the instruments they need, to minimize Shockwave's Beatnik Xtra installation. Primarily useful for Shockwave (as CD-ROMs usually have plenty of room) – use setSampleLibrary() in conjunction with getSampleLibrary().

For quick Shockwave installation, use the small BeatnikXtra-Basic.ppc (Mac OS) and BeatnikXtra-Basic.w32 (Windows) Shockwave packages (~200Kb) – they install stub.hsb on the Shockwave user's system.

Patches.hsb
483Kb
2.4.3
Standard Sample Library – Contains online-quality edition of the General MIDI and Beatnik Special banks. This is the same as the version used by the Beatnik Player for Web browsers.

For optimal Shockwave delivery, use the standard BeatnikXtra.ppc (Mac OS) and BeatnikXtra.w32 (Windows) Shockwave packages (~500Kb) – they install Patches.hsb on the Shockwave user's system.

Patches010800.hsb
1 Mb
1.8.0
Fixed Media Sample Library – Contains higher-resolution samples than Patches.hsb, and is optimized for CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, and other fixed-media delivery formats.

The large size of this sample library makes it impractical for Shockwave use, so Patches010800.hsb is not contained in any of the Beatnik Xtra Shockwave packages.
