Summer: The exhibition Never/Exhibited at the Bard College galleries in 2000 was an attempt at a similarly democratic space privileging works of the Hessel Collection that had not been exhibited in the galleries since their acquisition. The exhibition was installed with these works hung alphabetically, and placards stating the exhibition history of all of the works which had been shown previously. The exhibition opened amid a rumored animosity from a number of artists in the show and members of the community who felt the work was being instrumentalized by the heavy-handed curatorial premise.
The exhibition's installation documentation has not been made available for public use; the images shown here were included in the press release.
