Nicholas: Tom Friedman's blank sheet of paper, at which he stared for 1,000 hours while thinking, is also a self-portrait in a way. Perhaps he's asking for a reinvestment in thinking. Perhaps he's toying with the cults of personality that form around artists. Or perhaps his ideas are somehow imprinted on the page like psychic photographer Ted Serios' "thoughtography." His caption points to the last of these, though perhaps it is all of the above.
