For rabbit, gazelle
deer, and kangaroo
cautious fear listens loud
with large ears to hear
the quick quiet leap of the
eagle, panther, wolf and bear

For horse, zebra,
giraffe and camel
sinew’s pleasure feels
freedom’s run
A back leg kick asserts independent power where
weakness is intolerable
a long neck leans forward
confidant in the
predator’s disinterest
companions in pride
nozzle belonging
is the herd
