bigscreens annotated

Nice glitch, britta, it helped, I think. I can’t really justify posting these. Conan sounds about right.
My only lame defense is I hate the ubiquity of flat screen TVs in our culture. There is a falafel place near me that used to play Middle Eastern music on a CD and had travel posters of Syria and Lebanon on the walls. Recently they hung a big flat screen from the ceiling and now whenever I go in there it’s news or football with the sound turned up loud. The owners “went native,” which is to say embraced the shittier American values.

You know, the “vacation” aspect of my recent trip to Europe was really just an absence of flat-screen televisions everywhere I went…

In the states I make it a point to ask shop/cafe/bar owners to turn their televisions off if nobody is watching. So far I’ve had no rejections.
