MGM’s Charlie Chan google listing

If you do a google search for Charlie Chan You will see that the google listing for the official MGM site for Charlie Chan says “MGM’s official site, which does little more than advertise some movies on video.”
Peter says that it is because this site has metadata and the official MGM site does not… Also, Peter noted that we could do this to most any other MGM page!!!
Respek!

J and company……

Somebody take my hand and explain this one to me. Why is this kind of thing interesting? What can you do with it?

Not being ironic. Perhaps a little dumb. But I just don’t grasp it……..B

So.. I was excited because this is not something that you usually see on the internet. You don’t usually see a google listing for a large corporation with the description of the site seeming like a self-deprecating confessional.

The other interesting thing is the discovery that other google listings for MGM’s sites, like the site for Charlie Chan listing, can be manipulated in a similar way.

This is alot like the “miserable failure” google listing that happened a few years ago. It is exciting that we can still find ways to subvert the flow of information on the internet.

Okay, okay, okay. Thanks, Joel. Starting to see it.

Of course, I’m still unclear about what you mean by “metadata” and how one would go about this kind of subversion.

But now, I must return to my work and find a cure for cancer.
