Tom, do you know what causes this to happen? I see it often. I found these improperly loaded stripe pis on the website of an Ear/Eye/Nose/Throat Doctor.

Those are nice.
I don’t know the cause.
It seems it’s not missing image data but missing instructions for how to assemble it consistently.
On Windows the “babe” image is complete as a thumbnail and looks like this one when opened in the image viewer, full sized. Photoshop tells me the file is incomplete and creates its own stripe pattern–mostly magenta stripes starting at the same point of breakdown. The one above is a screenshot because it wasn’t rendering consistently and I had a preferred wrong version.

i can add that i’ve had it happen (not recently however) when a downloading (say, from an email or a chat transfer) image is cut off for some reason yet complete enough for the computer to recognize what it is. someone get on IRC and start DCCing!
